WHAT DOES IT REALLY COST?
Method development and validation can be subcontrated in one of two ways:
- Use of a contract lab
- By a consultant who is a trained analytical chemist, on-site in your own laboratory
Use of a contract lab can be very expensive, with long turnaround times. In addition, there is little or no oversight of your project except through e-mail, telephone and the final validation report.
Bringing a consultant on-site is many times a better way to go. Principal tasks such as protocol development actual laboratory experiments, data review and evaluation, and issuance of the final report can be done in concert with the consultant while maintaining full management span of authority over any project. In addition, method transfers become unnecessary since your own chemists are involved in the development and validation process. The project proceeds on "your" time-line, not at the availability of contract lab scheduling.
